New Year Week!
1/1/2018 The New Year
Well, another year down. Frankly, at times like these I wonder, "Did I really expect to live this long?" Not in a morose way, more that my mind just never put a number to the future, like I knew I would be alive in the future, just not in a future that had 2018 at the end of the timestamp. I mean really, I could be alive at 2100. Hopefully medicine makes that age a more pleasant experience than it would be now. Enough of rumination, lets get down to brass tacks.
1. I worked probably about... 65 hours? My work called No more on the unlimited overtime, but I still sacrificed most of my Christmas and new years to it. It's 3AM on new years day and I'm just waiting two more hours for my next shift to start. It's safe to say that even though I didn't hit the numbers I wanted, I'm very well within the spirit of the goal. I did make a ramshackle budget, but really not as much as I'd like.
What I Learned
There does come a point where too much work is too much. Frankly, I bushed myself out, and I'm frightened by how much of my identity and little things I love I lose when I'm working so much. I love running, I haven't been able to. I love dancing, I haven't been able to. I love living, and well I've still been able to do that, but it's been drudgery. I just have to keep in mind that this workaholicism is temporary. There will come a day where I don't have to do it anymore, and when that day comes, I'm going to give myself anywhere from a week to a month to just process my feelings and life and become a little bit more healthy... Before I inevitably choose another all-consuming goal that I burn myself away with. But hopefully with a little bit more balance, I mean money won't be a thing I worry about in the same way, so a good start already. But, I consider this goal accomplished. The paycheck I received put me MONTHS ahead on my previous finance projections, and my next should be just as pleasant to look at.
2. I ran like 2.7ish miles, only. And it was mostly due to work, but really running is one of those things that requires momentum, if you can't make it happen every day, it's actually harder to do in general. I did love that one run I did and I got a ton of running paraphernalia this Christmas, that I'm very excited to start using regularly. So a failure, but a very educational one.
What I Learned
Although it's not really about running, I did learn something. The "secondary" goals that I set during a week are really less about accomplishing something and more about reminding myself that there is a world outside of my main number one goal. It's more about health and keeping a balanced perspective in mind. That doesn't mean there can't be little successes there, higher degrees of efficiency, but that's not the intent of the goals, it's a happy side effect that's more psychosomatic than actual. Keep that in mind as I lay out my next set of goals.
Side note
I moved up in the world! I moved into the solo room at the apartment I live in and feel incredible about it! The apartment is much more open, and with how little items I have cluttering up my space I can really breath and relax. Just a little side benefit I'm enjoying.
Also, I'm not doing "New Years" Resolutions, because frankly I already over-engaged in my program of accomplishment and am regularly fine-tuning it. I will take a moment in my personal journals to flesh out more of my 4 year plan.
NEXT WEEK
1. Work. Basically as long as I get over 50-60 hours I'll be fine. I'm taking a week break from plasma donation just to give my poor veins a break, but I'll do some more next week. So if I have to put an income estimation, I'll just put it at the amount that I put on my budget estimations roughly $xxxx, so if I divide that by fourish.... $xxxx, just to make it even. Money is emotional, calm down ya math nerds. So yeah, that number in take home payish? (Just realized it's kinda shady to share your income so I'll just x those out...)
2.Upkeep goals.
a. Run 3 miles
b. Read 1 book
c. Play piano for 2 hours (sing a bit)
d. Brainstorm for 1 hour
e. Read seven pages of the Book of Mormon
f. One page of Chinese characters
g. Go on a date
Those will keep me moving at least, again, they're easy to complete, give me something to measure and even simulate progress. I'll probably do most of these in one afternoon and do more than is listed here.
TODOs
Get car a wash
Buy books for semester
Get Oil change
(Maybe overshared a little bit, but putting stuff really helps keep my goals in my mind.)
