Getting back on the horse.
9/16/18 Renewal and Commitment
Hello, it has been some time, and a good deal has changed. I finished my very expensive trip to Europe, started school again, and went all the way through a new relationship. One where we ended broken up, but the first in which we've maintained a good relationship post break up. I'm getting to work once more, but I've changed a couple things up again. First, I'm going to start doing weekly check-ins and reports like I had before. Second, I'm going to be primarily focused on balance and then work on extra goals as I can. And Third, I've made an anonymous Instagram account where I'm posting progress pictures for several of my current goals. Which, I think does add a certain intensity and import to it. So I'll break these up into the 3 things that they are.
1. Basic needs: First thing I need to do is make sure these are met. These are things like food, shelter, clothing, medications, and sleep. Sleep being the most difficult for me to maintain. Unless my life were to take a very dark sudden turn sleep is the only thing I'm worried about.
2. SPIES: This is developing my Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social self. I'll have some kind of goal attached to each of these qualities that are my first priority in goals. As a general rule I don't want any of these to take a silly amount of time out of my day, just a little bit. While I'm going to measure all of my goals and give myself parameters for success, I won't always share these, simply because it may be a more personal goal or it's a detail that's mostly useless.
3. Self-Actualization: These are things that are the extra mile, these are the goals that I'm passionate about and want to get to, but might not be able to. Ideally I'll make my life stable enough and plan it out well enough that I can consistently act on these goals and make significant progress there.
Notes: I'm going to be managing my Means, Method, and Opportunity to make these goals more realistic to attain and be managing a To Do list, budget, schedule, and my environment to encourage performance.
So, here we go.
First tier:
Sleep. hopefully this will be one of the few times that this will ever be a note on my list, but I need to get this consistent. I want to regularly plan on sleeping for 7 hours with variation between those numbers depending on the occasional uncontrollable influence. Planning for 7.
Second Tier:
Spiritual: Biggest thing here is just making it to church and reading scriptures daily, gonna be measuring that.
Intellectual: Basically my goal here is just to maintain my college assignments, so as long as I'm current on assignments this portion is being completed.
Physical: This one needs special attention because I've been gaining weight lately and I do nooot like it. I'm going to be working on reading books and making more developed plans than this, but I'm starting here. Going to run a 5k day every day M-Sat, and I'm going to eat only Rice, Vegetables, Fruit, and Meat/Proteins. Cut out Bread, Cheese, and sugars/processed food. Gonna keep a journal on that and start cutting down these pounds.
Emotional: Biggest one here is intentionally relaxing 30 minutes to an hour, but I'm also going to be keeping steady progress on some sort of relatively easy artistic goal. This week I'm going to finish writing some 1-act play submissions for a local competition, and then once that due date is over I'm going to start writing some small songs.
Social: Biggest one here is just actively spending time with other people. Existing on college campus is really enough for this one. A goal I have here is to get back into another relationship, but I'm not forcing that, just meeting more and more people and seeing what happens naturally.
Third Tier:
Here I've got a lot of different goals in mind, but for this week I'm only going to keep a handful in mind and measured, if there's any that I'm not working on, but are still in mind I'll make a statement on them.
Financial: I'm going through school debt free, but I'm not focusing on that, just keeping it up. Once I'm graduated this is going to go really high on the list. It suffices to say right now that I'm operating debt free and I'm fulfilling what my life needs. Getting into an apartment this next late spring is especially important because living at home won't work once my family has moved out of this house. With an unfortunate car problem that I don't have a bill for, things don't look great right now. Also, I need to figure out better ways to increase my income.
Reading: I have a bookshelf full of books that I want to finish reading and haven't. I want to establish a lifelong habit of reading and will be working on that. Goal here is to read every day and to finish the book I'm currently on.
Chinese: My bookshelf is also full of Chinese books I need to read/translate. Going to be working on that as well. Goal here is translating the book I'm currently on.
Improvisation: I volunteer at a local improv theatre and am part of two different improv groups. So I'm developing my abilities in both piano music improv and stage improvisation. Goal here is to keep attending groups and pushing myself.
Other possible goals upcoming: Develop style (fashion),Writing music, Writing Novel, Improve Piano skills, Create a business. (Gotta keep moving)
So, there ya go, I feel like that's pretty realistic, as long as it's recognized that my third tier goals probably aren't going to go down except for once or twice in a week.
Mordecai is the vision of the person I want to be right now and I'm going to keep using that name to represent my ideal person from my current person. Gotta do it.
