1/7/2017 A Small Step Back
Weird week, I had an enormous success last week with my money, cleaning up a lot of extra debt and getting done with an especially hard bit of work. However, after that, I really felt the messiness of change. Change doesn't give you a perfect sensation of 100% improvement, it's more like 70% improvement with 30% of some mix of confusion, questioning the worth of your sacrifices/ if it's worth it, and basically the emotional fallout of all the effort. It's caused me to re-evaluate my policy of one thing, at one time. I don't think I'll ever lose my perspective of one main focus, but I need to allow myself to keep something moving on my passions, not just things I'm passionate about that don't tickle that artistic urge and is more fulfilling on an identity level. So, I'm going to start transitioning to that perspective and allowing a little more of my time to be focused on that. So, more like a primary focus, a secondary focus, and a handful of upkeep efforts. Then those two main focuses switching between more artistic and "life" goals. Although a lot of these separations are pretty unnecessary, I try to do more than I think.
1. I worked about 60 hours this week, and I'm pretty sure my income ended up being at what I was hoping for, but it's sort of hard to tell. Much more relaxed week though, I slept like 12 hours straight one day and was recovering a lot, I'm ready to work more next week.
What I learned
Sometimes, you just gotta rest, the important thing is to keep doing what you can and planning what you're going to do once you don't have to rest so much. I'm still on track for my goals, but I did take a small reprieve there.
2. a. I ran about 6 miles, and enjoyed them, but my running has definitely slowed down and my fitness deteriorated.
b. I read most of a book, but I'll probably finish it by the end of Sunday today. A book a week is pretty realistic you've just gotta keep it up.
c. So I played piano for an hour, but didn't sing. Hard to find time when you don't have a piano in your apartment anymore, I'll buy one eventually though. Going to do more on the music side next week.
d. If you call this brainstorming sure, but I was hoping it was going to be more of an artistic endeavor. More on that.
e. I did not read any Book of Mormon, shame on me, but again, next week is a thing. I might do that today too.
f. One page of Chinese characters was easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
g. I went on... 3 dates? Although one of them was more of a friend date. Learned a lot, I enjoyed it.
What I learned
Upkeep goals a pretty good, they're just little ways to keep me moving and keep developing my skills, I'll do mostly the same goals next week but I may move one or two to a more active position at the newly created secondary slot. Little things like that can pay big dividends. And it has the side benefit of just making you feel more well rounded and balanced.
Side Notes
The apartment minus that one roommate with way too much stuff is way more relaxed and I love it. We're still developing how we're going to use and share the space, but it's not something I worry about, my motto has just been, "Everything is negotiable". But dang is it nice having my own room. I have some really bulky storage boxes that I want to either store somewhere more out of the way or get rid of entirely, but haven't yet. The only thing in them now are extra notebooks and paper to fill up. (Don't ever let me buy paper, I don't need it I have plenty. At least until I do a whole lot of writing, which someday I shall.
I had an extremely emotional day yesterday, I think I failed to take a medication on accident and it was just rough. I had a bummer morning where I couldn't sleep, a very stressful date that ended up being a pretty chill fun experience, and a work shift that I barely made myself get out to. At one point I was just crying, which was very cathartic.
You'll see this in next week's goals, but I'm going to make a new main goal around my artistic efforts. I think for this week at least I'll make it a little more variated so that I can decide what I want the main big one to be. Here's to being Bizarre.
Primary Work. Probably another 60 hours, but hopefully my main job will allow unlimited overtime again soon, it depends on the order volume for January which is anticipated to be quite large. I'll donate plasma again this week which will give me a pleasant little bump in income. Of course I'll still budget, which I've gone a little off budget this week because of dates, but not so much that it's been painful, just a little adjusting here or there. (Also I believe I'll get my next paycheck, which means I'll be able to pay off my car.)
Secondary Improvise. I want to Improvise stuff at the Piano for at least 5 hours, as well as start learning how to make some generic music that fits into different genres like rock, country, raggae, etc, a lot of improv games focus on that. I'm also going to start putting together a little improv troupe on the side, get a couple friends together. There's a competition opportunity and while I'm in no place to actually put forth a full concentrated effort, there's nothing wrong with trying my hand a little more as long as I keep it in its' place.
Write. I want to write... lets say 20 pages of content. It can be anything, sketches, short stories, etc, and it can be done in any way, but 20 pages will take me nothin' like a couple hours top.
Upkeep
a. Run 9 miles, but I want to make sure I'm running at least every other day, after two days you start to lose the gains you've made.
b. Read 1 book.
c. Sing a little bit.
d. Read 7 pages of the Book of Mormon and pray daily.
e. Go on a date and get to a more casual social event.
f. (Almost forgot) Write 1 page of Chinese characters, translate 3 pages of Manga.
Sweet.
